With utter shock and disbelief for many, the death of the Chief kemi Nelson, the only female member of Lagos Governor Advisory Committee(GAC) had been announced. Chief Kemi Nelson, a chieftain of All progressive congress who had been a stalwart member of the party for a long while according to sources died after a brief illness.
A statement according to Lagos State APC spokesperson Mr. Seye Oladejo, who confirmed the death, described the death of Mrs kemi Nelson as, “tragic and very sad.”.
For those who knew yeyesewa, as she was fondly called by many, she was fun and principled woman who maintained a high level of integrity and spent all her life defending democracy. Yeyesewa was an ally of APC party leader, Bola Tinubu, for a two decades. This relationship between the two started when she joined AD in 1999. Yeyesewa was part of Alliance For Democracy which transformed into a national party, APC of today.
Chief Mrs Kemi Nelson, a trained and registered Nurse, also graduated from Lagos state university with MBA in financial management. She once served as Executive Director of Nigerian Insurance Social Trust Fund. A lover of people, chief Kemi Nelson in her life time was a socialite extraordinaire who loved her people with a great heart.
A grass root politician, she was formally with the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) where she contested but lost senatorial election against Bola Tinubu during the aborted third republic in 1992. In 1998 political environment under the dark spectacle General Abacha, Chief kemi Nelson contested and won Federal house of assembly position under Ikeja constituency. It was after this that she pitched her tent with Alliance For Democracy(AD).
A member of her constituency, who is also the Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Ikeja Chapter and Chairman Conference of the 57 APC Chairmen in Lagos State, Mayegun Dally Adeokun while confirming her death expressed his shock. Mayegun Adeokun said “with heavy heart but with gratitude to Almighty God, we announce the death this morning of our Ikeja apex leader and state GAC member, Chief Mrs. Kemi Nelson”.
Mayegun expressed and sent his and the party’s condolences to the family of Chief kemi Nelson while praying for the repose of her soul “Our condolences go to her immediate family and the Ikeja political family.” “May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. “ Mayegun concluded.
Chief kemi Nelson was born February 9, 1956 was aged 66 when she passed on.
