The four yearly media fellowships of Africa Foundation for Young Media Professionals(AFYMP): Media Entrepreneurship, Women in Journalism, Campus Journalism as well as Disability and Inclusion reporting, which include physical training, mentoring for a minimum of 3 months as well as minimum of two stories to be published by each fellow has come to an end.
AFYMP 2022 media fellowship winners
This 2023 AFYMPFUNDEDProject as it is named is supported by MacArthur Foundation through CMEDIAProject led by Wole Soyinka Centre for investigative Journalism, Lagos Nigeria.
The four fellowships this year has its uniqueness as participants were selected from across Africa. The total numbers of fellows selected for 2023 was One Hundred and twelve in number across the four fellowships.
As its custom is, AFYMP always selects and recognizes outstanding fellows within each fellowship cohort every year.
Announcing the outstanding fellows this year, the Executive Director, Yinka Olaito, appreciated every participant despite all the challenges witnessed and demonstrated a high level of commitment to the demands of the fellowship. “We celebrated everyone that was selected for the fellowship. You are all outstanding as we had to pick from hundreds of applications this year. Given that everyone from Africa was also considered”, Yinka Olaito maintained.
“We understood the level of demands you put in as some of you also have commitment to your media houses as well as career being early career journalists/broadcasters. We are so glad to have you”. Yinka Olaito concluded.
Yinka Olaito also used the occasion to announce that the recognition this year is taking a new dimension as each fellowship award is now renamed after some outstanding media industry leaders who had shown to be role models for others.
Media entrepreneurship award/recognition is now renamed as Dapo Olorunyomi media entrepreneurship award. AFYMP’s women in Journalism recognition/award is now Stella Din-Jacob Women in Journalism award, while campus Journalism recognition is named Lekan Otufodunrin Campus Journalism award and Disability and Inclusion reporting is now Yinka olaito Disability and Inclusion Award.
The fellowship recognition will take place on November 29, 2023 alongside AFYMP 2023 Media entrepreneurship conference/workshop which will be held at Centre for Management and Development in Magodo Lagos by 10am. The event will have keynote address, panel session, inter varsity debate for selected 8 universities; it will also include induction of all the fellows who had fulfilled all the requirements of the fellowships.
The executive director of AFYMP also use the occasion to announce the names of the best fellows in each category for 2023 fellowships.

Yinka Olaito also used the occasion to appeal to prominent global funders in the area of youths engagement, governance, inclusion, media entrepreneurship, democracy, civil society actors, Policy and human rights to please support its various programmes as there are more demands for its projects which lack of adequate funding are delaying
