Oyo state house of assembly, the legislative arm of Government in Oyo state had by 11:00am this morning removed its erstwhile deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan. Ruaf Olaniyan has been on a long drawn battle with the Executive Governor, Seyi Makinde for a while now and the matter had attracted of every keen observer of politics in the state.
The removal of the estranged Deputy Governor was perfected this morning by the members of the state Assembly led by Rt Honourable Ogundoyin. A level of allegations based on numbers of misconducts were the reasons for his removal.
Prior to today, a panel of inquiry had been set up, which was led by Honourable Sanjo Adedoyin, from Ogbomosho, who is the majority leader of the house. The House leader claimed most of the allegations against Rauf Olaniyan were found to be true and he was culpable for all the indicted offences. Section 188 (9) of the 1999 constitution (as amended) was invoked and thereby led to the removal of the deputy Governor.
Prior to now, the ex –deputy Governor had challenged his indictment in court. The court ordered some restraints, which the house of assembly deified on the ground that the matter is within the confine of the assembly jurisdiction.
A keen observer, with good knowledge of political environment in Nigeria, knew the former deputy Governor’s cross-carpeting to the opposition party would lead to his undoing.
Rauf Olaniyan, a former member of People’s democratic Party(PDP) was elected in 2019 on a joint ticket with the Governor, Seyi Makinde on the platform of the People’s Democratic. But for certain disagreements on some personal matters between the two, Rauf Olaniyan decamped to the Opposition party- All Progressive Congress.
The removal of Olaniyan this morning put an end to the rumours that had filled the grapevine with regards to the fact that there were plan to remove him from the office since the day he decamped to APC
