Africa Foundation For Young Media Professionals commences the training of 84 Media entrepreneurs, Campus Journalists, Women Journalists and Disability and social inclusion in the media advocates across Nigeria on Monday 13th June, 2022.
The project tagged ”AFYMPFundedMediaproject2022” is a multi-level interventions with a major aim of increasing professional capacity of the participants as well as raising marginalized voices within the media industry. The project has a subtle focus on the next generation of media practitioners.
The breakdown of the beneficiaries according to the Executive Director of Africa Foundation For Young Media Professionals, Yinka Olaito, include 30 media entrepreneurs selected from across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, 22 Campus Journalists selected from across Nigeria Universities.
Also 16 female mass communications students were also selected to participate in Women In Journalism Course: New talent development as well as 16 Disability and inclusion media students will also benefit from this trainings.
Speaking with Nigeria Grassroot News, some of the awardees Remilekun Jimoh from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye and Slyvia Akpan from University of Uyo expressed their joy in being selected as awardees for Media entrepreneurship, Thought Leadership and Niche Building programme given the level of competitive nature of the selection process.
The SouthWest Cohort will begin on June 13, 2022 in Lagos while the train will move to Ibadan on June 20-23, 2022 while the South East, South South workshop will commence on Monday June 27, 2022. This will last for about 8 days.
Yinka Olaito, while speaking on the quality of the course and the faculty maintained the courses were developed to address present challenges in the media industry. Aside from this, the faculty parades some of the best and renowned in the media industry as well as journalism training Institutes in Nigeria.
