Rachael Daramola

Victoria is one of the very many youths in Nigeria who have been able to maximize social media to make massive profits from it. Having come from a poor background, she knew that she was on her own and had to work out a means of getting money to take care of herself.

Although, she claimed that the best gift anyone could receive at this age is the gift of a smartphone and it was what she also received from a friend of hers that changed her life and made her become one of the fastest-rising teenagers making money online and from the social media majorly.

“My friend gave me her used ItelA56 when her uncle bought an iPhone 7 for her on her birthday. We were only 15 at that time and she gave it to me so I would not feel inferior to her since she has no siblings to give the phone to at that time.

My parents had initially vehemently refused that I take the phone but upon many pleas and promises that it would not distract me, they let me use it.

“Now, I have been able to make so much more to buy even an iPhone 14 pro max which costs about 1.5 million, and even more now than this, by working and learning how to make money from social media. My parents are even more than supportive of my online business of writing and teaching other people how to write.”

Making money online can assist people to supplement their income, whether they are in a tight financial state of affairs or choose some additional money for luxuries. The occasions in the past few years have increased public awareness of digital opportunities, however, it does not guarantee that every net business enterprise is an actual moneymaker.

Making money online shouldn’t entail MLM; these schemes are well-publicized, but only a small percentage of those at the top make any money. While many have been scammed online, some as well have made a huge success from it. Making a lot of cash in a short duration of time is unlikely to be real.

Concept of social media is a computer-based technology that facilitates the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and information through the building of virtual networks and communities. There are more than 4.5 billion social media users around the world. The largest social media networks include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.

Social media typically features user-generated content and personalized profiles and by 2023, the number of social media users in the United States is forecast to increase to approximately 257 million.

Victoria explained how she was largely able to use social media in generating income for herself only by learning from those who had gone before her and also seeing different educational videos on YouTube and Facebook as well.

She explained that it was very easy to lose money online and gain money online at the same time and all that is needed to be on the winning side is determination and full knowledge of what you want to become and what is required of you to get to the point you want to be seen at.

“The normal stereotype of young Nigerian youths going about, trekking in the scorching heat and sun-seeking for jobs was not what I wanted and I envisioned for myself even at a very young age, and I needed to make money, I wanted to be independent and live the comfortable life I always dreamed of and that was why I took to working online and I must say that it has paid me off very well.”

There have been recognizably ten major ways to make money online legitimately and they include Freelance writing on Fiverr and the likes, Blogging, Affiliate marketing, Cryptocurrency trading, Online Proofreading, Content Writing Jobs, Resell Mobile Data, Become A Digital Marketer, YouTubing, Tutoring and Creating Online Courses which Victoria majorly do.

She said that even at her young age, it had not been anything difficult for her to do since she had mastered her craft and was pretty good at doing all she knew how to do, and teaching it was not a problem for her as well. If she were to be a school teacher at that time, going to school every day (the stress and cost alone) would drain her of all her strength and income but working online made it all easy for her to do.

Victoria who just clocked 20 on December 23rd, 2022 is a well-known young adult on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram as a writer and writing tutor in her school and has thus been able to make money and also impact the lives of other individuals online positively. And this is how many more Nigerian youths and students are out there earning a living legitimately for themselves, which helps them and others around them not to be idle and broke.

The good old times in Nigeria when all a teenager would do to earn a living or have something to do for themselves were limited to learning a trade, becoming an apprentice, farming, and the like is gone and this is a new era where things are now made faster and easier but it also comes with its many disadvantages.

Vic further advised then when she just started some of her online businesses before the one she is now popular with (Tutoring and Creating Online Courses), she noticed that most of the problems of social networking include that it lacks emotional connection, decreases face-to-face communication skills, conveys an inauthentic expression of feelings, diminishes understanding and thoughtfulness, and facilitates laziness.

But just like the popular saying that whatever has a disadvantage has its advantage, social media and other online work tools have helped largely in increasing website traffic, generating leads that are prospective clients for your business, boosting sales, and partnering with influencers who help in promoting your business and brand image.

Social media is used for more than just brand-customer interaction now as it builds relationships and creates long-lasting ones at times. It also helps you to share your expertise, you have the chance to talk about what you know and what you want to be recognized for on social media, unlike physical jobs where people need to go for tons of interviews before you are accepted to the company and the likes.

Victoria emphasized that social media has been one that helped a little girl like her increase her visibility which made her work more on herself through the help of social media as well and put her out there to connect with other persons who have been fruitful and instrumental to her growth overtime.

And of course, having finished her West African Examination Council in Nigeria, she believes in moving on to writing her JAMB and moving onto a prestigious higher institution of learning to study mass communication as that would help home her writing skills, public speaking skills, and also how to relate with much more people she would be connecting with in the future as she believes she has a long way ahead of her and her education is still germane to her online job.

“Having an online job and making money is never enough, you should also add more to your educational knowledge as that is necessary to help you stand out with all you do online and it exposes you to other great minds you need to meet with and learn from as well,” Victoria added.
