Contrary to the memo released by Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, (EKSU) academic activities are yet to commence in the institution.
On Monday, 29th August 2022, a press release by Ekiti State University was issued and propagated through the media instructing students to resume school.
ASUU-EKSU Chairman, Dr. Arogundade Kayode disclosed in an interview that academic activities cannot commence because the Union is still on strike.
“My members are still on strike. ASUU-EKSU is a complete member of the ASUU National Union.” he said.
The Director of Information at EKSU, Mr Bode Olofinmuagun, revealed that only new intakes are on in school for non-academic activities.
He said “The newly-admitted students of the University are on campus for screening and registration.”
The Student Union President of the school, Alade Emmanuel emphasized the need to take advantage of Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), which have called off their strike.
He said: “The alumni of the school, even the elected governor, Biodun Oyegbanji, had a meeting with us on how ASUU-EKSU can back out of the strike. But we have no solution to it.
“However, it will be better if we use the opportunity of NASU and SSANU that has resumed, to start something.
“We have about four faculties that are into practicals. So if we can start practicals now, it will serve as a signal for ASUU-EKSU to come to school.”
