The Benue state orientation camp of the National Youths Service Corps on Sunday, 24th July 2022 received the presence of its Director General Brigadier General Mohammed Fada. The D.G. paid a courtesy visit to the state’s orientation camp as part of his country-wide visit to different orientation camps across the country.
The Benue NYSC State Coordinator Mr. Abe Dankaro Ashumate. In his welcome address, praised the D.G and his entourage and stated “We do not take your this your frst visit to Benue permanent orientation for granted and that the state’s orientation camp is honored by his presence which highlighted the DG’s welfarism drive for the youth Corpers posted to the state”.
Mr. Abe Dankaro Ashumate therefore used to occasion to brief the DG about some of the challenges faced by the state’s orientation camp and pointed out that good efforts are being made to tackle and solve these challenges.
The D.G. during his address congratulated the corps members for their tenacity of purpose which made them to stay on and finish their courses to a degree level. While applauding the youth Corps, The DG advised the corps members “Do remember that while serving your father’s land the orientation camp is a semi-regimented environment which thrives on rules that must be obeyed”. Even after leaving the camp, the DG also warned “Please do avoid joining cult groups, shun the abuse of drugs, and always sensible with the use of social media”.
The NYSC D.G went on to admonish that the corps members that they should ensure tthey make the best use of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Development (SAED) program as there are no longer jobs readily available in the country. He also mentioned that since a bulk of the ad-hoc staff for the forthcoming 2023 general election will be from the scheme, corps members should ensure that their participation in the electioneering process should be in line with what is stipulated in the Nigerian constitution. More importantly, the NYSC DG cautioned “ Always be mindful of your safety wherever you are posted as their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) and interact positively with members of their host communities.
The D.G also in his fatherly gesture donated items to the Benue state orientation camp to cater to their walfarism and also gave out his phone number for corps members to reach him whenever there is need for it.
