Residents of Ota community in Ogun State have lamented the lack of interest by youths in acquiring skills that can enhance their future development.

The residents spoke to our correspondent in separate exclusive interviews where they also gave personal examples that has helped them in different areas. A young frozen foods seller who established his business in the community, Emmanuel Victor revealed certian reasons why youths of nowadays are not ready to undergo the stress of academics and vocation.

According to him, “For those teenagers or young youths who fails to learn a trade nor venture into academics are yet to figure out their goal which is as a result of distraction in the civilization world”.

Emmanuel gave a full analysis on why youths does not have any concrete reasons not to venture into either academics or vocation as a result of the less capital required most especially in vocation.

He said “Will the youths out there analyze that their lack of interest in trade is as a result of capital? Infact, I’m not sure that some of those who are presently in school are really receiving quality lectures since the invention of Yahoo. Youths are distracted”.

While asked if either the bosses or parents should be blamed for the menance, he clearly stated his personal experience as an example stating that there is a learning process.

“My boss is harsh and as well nice so that I can learn. Infact, some of the apprentice that met me during training was sent away by my boss for stealing. This shows that current youths are more interested in making money earlier,” Emmanuel stated.

Emmanuel personal story indicates that he is also interested in furthering his education as soon as he is fit to sponsor himself. In another interview with an experienced fashion designer, Ms Angela Chikwedu, she explained how  young teenagers i the community is showing interest to learn her craft.

“We have them here. They come at least 6 months in an interval yet as a boss, I discovered the need to change my training idea with them into an informal one unlike the case of my boss and I. This is to get more of their attention as the current era demands,” she said

Angela highlighted that youths of nowadays are impatient who believes that “ that school is a waste of time.”A proprietor of a secondary school, Mr Ayelagbe gave an overview of young teenagers and youths interest in the sector as not encouraging therefore called on the attention of parents and governments. In his words “Parents should endeavour to create time for their wards by ensuring proper monitoring of their whole activities as well as the teachers.”“Government should provide qualitative and sound education. While in cases of youths already involved in the menace, the government should create orientations and programmes to sensitize their ideology,” he added.

More residents of Ota community , Ogun State, are calling for the attention of authorities to provide needed facilities for young persons to learn skills.
